I have finally made it to Toronto where the temperature is a cool 39c and I feel like a lolly pop in one of June's freezers [only Hedingham Castle will understand this
]. The most striking thing so far about the cities I have visited ( Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto) is that they all seem to be far to big for the population. Toronto is the busiest city that I have seen so far however and is very much cosmopolitan. Today I am job hunting and also looking for places to stay; I have not run out of money but being a tourist/ traveler there is a remarkable trend in that my bank balance is one way, down, although Mum would tell you that this is normal. Cough cough.
Looking back at the blog, I can not believe that it has been nearly one month since I last wrote. This is due to a combination of factors, including not having much access to the internet and also not really doing anything whilst staying with Di and Marg. I have however been to the Calgary Stampede. My Aunt Sybil and her friend Desmond stayed for two weeks with us in Calgary and so I was their chauffer (I have forgotten to mention in my previous blogs that the car I get to drive over here is a newish Jeep Grande Cherokee). The three of us decided that going to the evening show on the opening night would be most convenient, due to the heavy golfing schedule of Sybil and Desmond and good weather. To my delight we managed to get some of the best seats available. The show was absolutely amazing, the best I have ever seen in my life. To start with there was chuck-wagon racing which is far to complicated and bizarre to explain followed by a 3 hour stage show worthy of the West End and finally a firework finale which was amazing.
Since Sybil and Desmond have left, I have moved on to Toronto. This I an amazing city which is full of life and sky-scrapers (or the tallest buildings that I have been near to).I met up with some guys who were from the Midlands. They had cycled all of the way from San Francisco, I informed them that they were mad and did not take up the invitation to cycle back down with them to South America!
As well as touring the City itself, I managed to go to the Islands to the south of the City. It was quite surreal the fact that I was in Toronto which can get as cold as -40c and I was laying on a sandy beach on the edge of Lake Ontario in temperatures of 40c (thats 105f for you oldies!). So now I have a tan and head off to an over night trip to Niagara Falls, which should be fun!
